Now that the Paris Olympics are behind us, we can reflect back on some of the proudest moments and greatest feats we witnessed.  Here is a nice summary article by the New York Times to remind you:

Paris Olympics 2024 Best Highlights Moments

The Olympic athletes we watched for those couple weeks are an inspiration to us all!  When I was younger, while the Olympics were going on, my dad drew out the 5 rings of the Olympics and put the following words in each ring: commitment, vision, discipline, passion, and excellence, as the words that characterized the spirit of the Olympic athletes.  I still remember that even though I must have been ten years old. These same words and spirit can be applied to every field of human endeavor, including career performance and organizational leadership.

  • Commitment: are you committed to becoming great in your field?  Is this commitment evident in what you think about and talk about?
  • Vision: do you have a vision for what you want to accomplish in the next year, three years, and five years?  Does this vision excite you and push you to reach your potential and make a difference?
  • Discipline: are you able to execute against your goals on a daily basis? Do you say no to distractions and less important things in order to say yes to the daily work that will help you meet your goals?
  • Passion: are you fueled by a strong love for what you do or what you are wanting to accomplish?  Can you tap into a deep enjoyment of the activity itself?
  • Excellence: do you set high standards and expectations for yourself? Do you benchmark against the best that is out there and learn everything you can to be great?
